CONFINED SPACE RESCUE

This course is intended for people who may be required to perform a rescue in a confined space environment. Participants will review safety regulations and examine in detail the risks and hazards of entering confined space. The program will focus on safe and practical methods of non-entry victim retrieval. Topics will include rescue equipment analysis, basic knots and hitches, anchoring procedures, belaying techniques and the use of tripods and retractable lifelines. Rigging procedures to remove a victim from a confined space will be demonstrated and practised.

This comprehensive course examines advanced confined space rescue techniques. Step-by-step rescue procedures for entering a confined space will be discussed. Participants will learn about the various types of respiratory protection equipment and their uses and limitations relative to confined space emergency evacuations. Specialized rescue equipment and techniques used for complex victim packaging and extrication will be taught and practised including the use of special litters, short-haul and inchworm hauling systems. This course is available to groups of six or more
